Cold is coming – but nowhere near as bad as minus 10 conditions to hit UK

TEMPERATURES are set to plummet tonight – but Kilkenny and the rest of the country will be spared the freezing sub-zero conditions will afflict our neighbours across the water.

Parts of the UK will fall to as low as -10 amid fears it is about to be hit by another ‘Beast from the East’ type weather phenomenon.

Met Éireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly said: “The problem we have is that we’re right next door to the UK and they have different weather to us.

“They are more influenced by the continental weather, so they have some very cold weather coming up in the next week, whereas we’re going to get a bit cold.”

“We don’t get the heat that they get and we don’t get the cold that they get generally.”

Met Eireann said it will be mostly cloudy across Kilkenny and Leinster tonight, with some light patchy rain towards morning possible.

Temperatures will drop to between 4 and 7 degrees but will lower to zero under “localized clear spells in the south”, with light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Tomorrow will be cloudy and dull, with patches of light rain or drizzle, but rainfall levels will be small. Temperatures will rise to between 9 or 10 degrees, with moderate windy conditions in parts.
