COVID-19 UPDATE: Death toll rises by 33 as 553 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed

Thirty-three more people have died after contracting Covid-19 as 553 more cases of the coronavirus were confirmed this evening.

It brings the overall Covid-19 death toll to 320.

A total of 8,928 people in the country have now contracted the virus after a further 286 older cases of Covid-19 were reported by a laboratory in Germany, the Department of Health said.

Earlier it was confirmed there has been a further 15 deaths due to Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, bringing the total to 107.

The Public Health Agency later confirmed there are 128 new cases of Covid-19 there, bringing the total number of infected people across the border to 1,717.
