COVID-19 UPDATE: Nursing home staff to have temperature checked twice per day

Sweeping new changes in the nursing home sector will see staff having their temperatures checked twice per day, the Minister for Health Simon Harris announced this afternoon.

National and regional Covid-19 infection prevention and control teams will work with individual nursing home and homecare providers to implement the procedures.

Minister Harris added that the supply of personal protection equipment (PPE) and oxygen will be shared equally between nursing homes and homecare providers, while the transfer of staff between nursing home settings needs to be restricted and minimised.

The new measures are part of a strategy to prevent the spread of the disease which has seen 40 clusters reported in nursing homes, most of which are in the east of the country.
