‘Delighted and relieved’ – hero Kilkenny campaigner gets jab while undergoing clinical trial in US

Hero cancer campaigner Vicky Phelan has expressed her delight after receiving her Covid-19 vaccine while undergoing experimental treatment in the US.

The Mooncoin mother-of-two shared this picture on her Instagram account of her receiving the one-shot Johnson & Johnson jab.

It means there is now no fear of Vicky being taken off the clinical trial, which would have happened if she had contracted Covid-19.

Vicky (46) has been in the US since early January as part of a new cancer treatment, called M7824 she signed up to trial in National Institute of Health facility in Maryland.

In a message to her followers, a delighted Vicky said: “Soooo, I got vaccinated today here in Oldtown Alexandria in Virginia. I got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine so I don’t have to go back for a second dose.

“I am both delighted and relieved to now be vaccinated as the constant worry of catching Covid was weighing heavily on me because if I were to catch Covid, I would have to come off my clinical trial and that was not something that I wanted to happen.

“So far, so good! I have been very tired today but that could also be because of treatment yesterday. I will post an update video tomorrow once I have a full 24hours post-vaccine done,” Vicky added.
