€1.2 million Kilkenny drugs bust, two men arrested
Two men are in custody following the discovery of €1.18million worth of cannabis in county Kilkenny yesterday evening.
The 59kg of the drugs were found during a planned operation between the Revenue Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).
The discovery comes as a major blow to what gardai have described as “persons suspected to be involved in an organised crime group operating in the Kilkenny area.”
A spokesperson for the Gardai said: “During the course of this operation 59kgs of Cannabis with an estimated street value of €1,180,000 (€1.18 Million) was seized by Revenue Officers.”
Gardaí arrested a man aged in his 20s at the scene and he is presently detained at Kilkenny Garda Station.
Another man, aged in his 40s, was arrested when the vehicle he was driving was stopped in the Kilkenny area following an operation.
Both men are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
