€350 million development, bringing 4,800 new jobs, another step closer to realisation

By COLIN BARTLEY

A MAJOR development creating 4,800 jobs in Kilkenny and the South East region is one step closer to fruition.

Plans for the new transport terminal at the Waterford North Quays Development went on display today.

The transport hub will see the construction of a new train station to replace the existing Plunkett Station, a new bus set down area and short-term parking facilities. It is a central part of the overall €350 million scheme.

When completed the Ferrybank development will provide offices, accommodation, retail space, hotels and entertainment on an eight-hectare site on the north shore of Waterford city.  Up to 1,500 jobs primarily targeted at Foreign Direct Investment will be created, 2,300 jobs in the construction stage and a further 1,000 in strategic industrial lands.

These additional jobs alone will generate consumer spend of €50m per annum according to the developers.

Falcon Real Estate Development Ireland is set to submit a planning application for the project imminently.
