After Nationwide, now Billy’s Tearooms is nominated for Ireland’s ‘food Oscars’

ONE of Kilkenny’s most celebrated community initiatives – Billy’s Tearooms and Shop – has received three nominations for Ireland’s ‘food Oscars’

The highly popular Ballyhale eaterie has been nominated in the Best Café, Best Customer Service and Best Newcomer categories in the Leinster region of the 2019 Irish Restaurant of the Year awards.

It’s a fantastic achievement for the non-profit community project, which recently featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide programme.

Billy’s Tearooms said on social media: “We are delighted to announce that we have been nominated for Irish Restaurant of the Year 2019 for the Leinster Region in three categories.

“This is due recognition for all the hard work we have all put in over the last seven months.

“Thanks are due to our four core workers, Marian, Helena, Eileen and Lisa, our loyal band of students, Vivienne, Maeve, Dearbhla, Courtney, Aisling and our wonderful volunteers (too many to name individually).

“You have toiled under difficult and at times very difficult conditions, always with a smile on your face and a welcome word for our guests, to make Billy’s the success it is today.”

Billy’s Tearooms said it will be represented at the awards ceremony by “some of our staff and volunteers”, adding: “Fingers crossed we will win one of the awards.”
