Four further deaths as Lockdown 2.0 introduced across three counties

There were four further deaths from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.

The total death toll here is now 1,772 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 26,470 after another 98 were diagnosed.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach Micheal Martin this evening announced a localised lockdown across Kildare, Laois and Offaly.

You can now only travel within your county across those those three counties for the below reasons:

  • to travel to and from work where that work cannot be done from home
  • to attend medical appointments, collect medicines and other health products
  • for vital family reasons, like providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, but excluding social family visits
  • for farming purposes, food production or care of animals

Under the restrictions being applied to counties Kildare, Laois and Offaly:

  • All indoor gatherings including any type of household, private family or social indoor gatherings of people will be restricted to a maximum of six people from no more than three households in total, while maintaining social distancing.
  • All outdoor gatherings are to be limited to a maximum of 15 people, while maintaining social distancing.
  • Cafes, restaurants and pubs serving food should close from tonight, except for the purpose of serving takeaways.
  • Outdoor dining up to a maximum of 15 people with appropriate social distancing will be permitted.
  • Cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries, bingo halls, betting shops and other indoor recreational and cultural outlets should be closed.
  • No sporting events or matches should take place, however non-contact sports and training may continue outdoors subject to a maximum of 15 people.
  • Contact sports should cease except for training for professional and elite athletes.
  • Horse racing behind closed doors may continue.
