Chaos as four gardai hospitalised after attempting to arrest man

FOUR gardai were hospitalised after they were attacked by a man they were attempting to arrest.
The incident occurred just off Rice Bridge in Waterford city in the early hours of this morning.
The gardai, who were on duty at the time, were called to a public order disturbance on Bridge Street at 6.30am when they came across the man.
In the course of making the arrest, the four gardai were bitten in the arms, kicked, punched and threatened.
The 33-year-old man was eventually subdued and arrested. He remains in custody at Waterford Garda Station this evening.
The four gardai, three males and a female, were brought to University Hospital Waterford for treatment. They have since been released.
