FOUR Kilkenny arts groups are to benefit from €350,000 grants to assist in their production of high-quality arts events.

Music in Kilkenny, Historical Harp Society of Ireland, Barnstorm Theatre Company Ltd and Monkeyshine Theatre are among those to receive the funding through the Arts Council’s  Arts Grant Funding scheme.

Barnstorm Theatre Company Ltd received the largest allocation, €177,000, Monkey Shine Theatre received €116,000, while both Music in Kilkenny and Historical Harp Society of Ireland both received €27,000.

The Arts Council awarded €7.3 million to some 131 artists, arts organisations and projects through its Arts Grant Funding programme.

Speaking about the announcement Arts Council Director Orlaith McBride said: “This investment recognises the world-class talent that continues to be displayed by our artists and arts organisations. The range of activities supported will ensure that audiences across the island of Ireland will have access to artistic work of ambition, innovation and excellence.”

Last year Kilkenny groups received just €59,000 under the Arts Grant Funding Scheme.
