Fringe festival gives alternative art a platform

AUGUST is the month of arts in Kilkenny and aside from the Kilkenny and Thomastown affairs, there is another, more alternative festival taking place.

Alternative Kilkenny Arts Fringe festival or AKA Fringe runs, in parallel to and in conjunction, with the Kilkenny Arts Festival and the Thomastown Creative Arts Festival, and provides an outlet for theatre, literature and spoken word, as well as the more visual arts.

Now in its fifth year AKA, brings over seventy events to every corner of the county over ten days, bringing established Kilkenny Arts companies, established artists and emerging talent to the doorstep of the Kilkenny public.

The festival is supported by the Kilkenny Leader Partnership and features everything from ceramics, animations, music, visuals and spoken word.

One of the highlights of AKA Fringe as part of Thomastown Creative Arts Festival is ‘The Viaduct’ By Noah Hamilton which is opening at the Berkeley Gallery, Thomastown this afternoon.
