Gang targets Kilkenny homes, emptying oil tanks, during Covid-19 crisis
Gardai are on the hunt for a gang of slick operators who have been going around the county emptying fuel from tanks outside homes.
Earlier this week gardai were contacted by a homeowner in Laurel Hill in Inistioge who discovered the tank had been emptied.
When they turned on the heating the boiler wouldn’t work. They later discovered some 700 litres of fuel recently purchased had been siphoned from the tank.
In another recent incident on the Kilkenny Road in Castlecomer, the gang entered a private property and emptied the houses tank of 1,000 litres of home heating oil.
A local Garda spokesperson told KilkennyNow.ie: “This kind of theft requires a lot of equipment and drums. It would also require transport to remove that among of fuel.
“Anybody that may have seen anything suspicious or anything unusual that might trigger something, no matter how small or insignificant you may think the information, we ask you to please contact your local garda station and tell us.”
Eyewitnesses or anyone with information about the thefts is urged to contact Kilkenny Garda Station (056 777 5000) or Thomastown Garda Station on (056 777 5140).
