11 malnourished horses seized in Garda raid on county Kilkenny property

Gardai have seized 11 horses in county Kilkenny as part of a planned raid.

Yesterday officers entered lands close to Castlecomer to perform a search under the Animal Health & Welfare Act, 2013.

The search was a multi-agency operation that included officers from the Department of Agriculture, members of the ISPCA and KSPCA as well as the My Lovely Horse Rescue group.

Elven horses were seized during the operation. A full investigation into breaches of the 2013 Act is now underway. The horses were found to be malnourished and in need of veterinary attention.

The horses have been sent to new homes where they will undergo rehabilitation.
