Getting the points: number of Kilkenny drivers with penalties on licences revealed

Almost 10,000 Kilkenny drivers had penalty points on their driving licenses this year.

New figures released to the TheJournal.ie through a Freedom of Information request reveal a total of 9,822 local drivers had points on their licences on September 30, 2019, making Kilkenny the 15th highest county in the country.

Overall, more than half a million drivers across the country had penalty points on their licences this year.

This is a drop from the 529,733 people recordeds as having points on their licences on September 30, 2018.

Similar to last year, the highest number of points were some of the most highly populated areas of the country – Dublin (106,545 points) , followed by Cork (51,917) and Galway (28,594).

The counties with the lowest number of drivers with penalty points were ones that had some of the country’s lowest populations – Leitrim with 2,904 points, Longford with 4,766 and Sligo with 6,130.
