Farmer pulling trailer with bales of unsecured hay stopped on Kilkenny road

A tractor carrying a load of almost 20 round bales was stopped on a county Kilkenny road because none of the hay were secure.

Members of the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit spotted the tractor and trailer with its hazardous load while out on patrol over the weekend.

No attempt had been made to secure the bales with straps and gardai grounded the tractor and its load until strapping was applied.

A local Garda spokesperson said: “The consequences of these bales falling would have been serious for other road users/pedestrians.”

Gardai have asked all road users, especially at this time of year during the peak agricultural season to “always think road safety”.
