Homeless in Kilkenny will have their own postal address for first time

PEOPLE living in homeless shelters or emergency accommodation in Kilkenny will have their own personal postal address for the first time as part of a new initiative by An Post.

Not having an address is a major stumbling block for people trying to lift themselves out of homelessness.

But now, under the Address Point Scheme, local homeless people will be able to use post office on High Street as their address for personal post and letter collection.

Meanwhile, a group of hardy volunteers will be taking part on a Sleep Out in the city tonight to help the homeless.
Each of the volunteers has raised at least €300 to take part in the event, which is being organised by the Good Shepherd Centre.

The Good Shepherd has been tackling the issue of homelessness in Kilkenny for over 20 years.
