Huge six-fold increase in number of social houses built in Kilkenny
More than 110 social houses have been completed in Kilkenny in the past 12 months, a new report reveals.
Figures published by Rebuilding Ireland in their Social Housing Construction Status Report for the second quarter of 2020 shows the rate of completions, houses under construction and those approved or in the planning stage are far ahead of figures when compared to the same period the previous year.
In 2019 just 16 houses were completed in the 12 month period up to June 30. In the same period this year a total of 111 social houses have been completed across, providing much needed housing in the city, Castlecomer and Callan.
There are currently 54 social housing developments either in the planning stage or on-site in Kilkenny city and county. This is almost double the 32 developments that were at the same planning stage 12 months ago.
Of these developments, 147 social houses are currently under construction. A further 208 have now been approved and are in the design and tender stages.
