‘I will be a champion for Kilkenny’ – new SF candidate to contest redrawn constituency
Sinn Féin candidate Evan Barry has promised he will be ‘a champion’ for the people of north Kilkenny in the new North Tipperary constituency.
As part of the recent boundary changes, parts of north Kilkenny, including Urlingford, Tullaroan, Freshford and Johnstown, have been integrated into Tipperary North.
Sinn Féin yesterday confirmed Mr Barry will join Dan Harty on the constituency ticket.
In a statement confirming his candidacy, Mr Barry (pictured below) said: “I am running to ensure that the people of Kilkenny have a champion within this newly defined constituency. I will also be hugely supported in my campaign by former councillor for the area, Denis Hynes. Denis’ insights and commitment will be invaluable in representing our Kilkenny roots effectively within the broader Tipperary North constituency.”
Mr Barry said his campaign “will focus on making sure Kilkenny residents’ concerns are heard”.
He promised to to fight to secure “improved funding allocation to the R963”, improve amenities for rural areas and to tackle rural crime.
Mr Barry added: “I look forward to working with Dan and talking with voters throughout north Kilkenny, advocating for both Kilkenny and Tipperary in the Dáil. Together, we can ensure that our communities thrive with strong, inclusive representation.”
