Introducing Kilkenny’s new Syrian and Iraqi community
THIS was the moment members of the Kilkenny Garda Community Engagement Team and Callan gardai met with the new Syrian and Iraqi community who recently arrived in the county.
The Syrian and Iraqi refugees are living in Callan and Urlingford after they were forced to flee their war-torn countries.
The meet and greet was facilitated by the Callan Droichead Centre.
Kilkenny gardai said a number of matters were discussed during the meeting, including “crime prevention advice and road safety”.
The Garda members also outlined the role Integration Officers play in the Community Engagement Team to support new and diverse communities living locally.
The refugees were also given a presentation from the Callan Men’s Shed members, on the work the group does to support men in the area.
