Kilkenny bakery gives lifeline to local suppliers as it undergoes Covid-19 transformation

An award-winning Kilkenny bakery making its store available to local producers who are struggling to keep alive during the Covid-19 crisis.

Áran Artisan Bakery and Bistro in Barrack Street has undergone extensive work to ensure the safety of its staff and customers and is currently opening from 9.30am to 2.30pm, from Wednesday to Saturday.

It is advised to order in advance to avail of their call and collect service, while Áran already has been running a delivery service since the recent restrictions came into effect.

The bakery is also providing free coffee to all frontline workers as a “thank you” for the brave contribution they are making to society throughout the emergency.

Áran owner Bart Pawlukoj (above) said on social media: “We have new safety precautions in place – we will only be allowing one person in the shop at a time, we have installed glass protective screen guards on all our counters to keep both you and our staff safe, we will be strictly enforcing the two-metre social distancing rule in the queue.

“We will have a separate collection counter for those who have placed their order and paid over the phone to avoid the queue.

“You can ring in your order at 056 775 6297 after 09:30am [on] Wednesday [until Saturday]. We’ll have our signature sourdough, classic pastries, coffee and a takeaway menu.

“As always, all our amazing frontlines – healthcare workers, gardai, firefighters and military get a free coffee as a thank you for all the amazing hard work,” Bart added.
