UPDATE: Kilkenny Castle confirms ‘urgent’ works to be carried out on playground
KILKENNY Castle has confirmed the reason for its sudden decision to close the playground to the public.
This week it announced it forced to close the hugely popular facility due to “unforeseen health and safety issues”, adding the playground would be closed “until further notice”.
Kilkenny Castle later issued a statement saying the playground requires “urgent attention”.
The statement adds: “The facility opened almost 11 years ago and due to wear and tear it requires urgent attention/maintenance. There are issues concerning the ground surface lifting and some of the equipment needs replacing. These works are essential to this facility so that we can supply a safe environment for those that use it.”
Kilkenny Castle could not say when the playground will reopen to the public, beyond saying it would be “at the earliest possible date”.
It added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the closure but these works are essential to this facility so we can supply a safe environment for those that use it.”
