A well-known Kilkenny city centre hotel has been put on the market for a price tag of at least €4.8 million.

The Kilkenny Inn on Vicar Street is likely to attract a lot of interest from investors as it also has planning permission for a a 66-bedroom extension.

The 3-star hotel currently consists of 30 guest bedrooms. Selling agents Cushman & Wakefield and JLL said the new extension will benefit from access to the newly opened St Francis Bridge, which provides direct access into the city centre.

The hotel is situated next to the famous St Canice Cathedral on Kilkenny’s ‘Medieval Mile’. It’s also a short stroll to all the city’s popular nightlife, Smithwick’s Experience and Kilkenny Castle.

The three-storey hotel was originally built in 2005 and the 30 guest bedrooms have undergone a light refurbishment in recent years. The Kernel Bar & Restaurant is spread over two floors with two bars, serving residents and the public. The hotel also has a separate breakfast room and a popular meeting space within the Tower Suite.

In 2021, the hotel was granted full planning permission for a high profile and exciting 66-bedroom four storey extension and ground floor café outlet. This will increase the overall key count to 96 keys, once constructed and will provide a new landmark entrance on to the main route into the city and over the St Francis Bridge.
