Kilkenny company’s Covid kits to play key role in Ireland’s testing strategy
A Kilkenny -company has launched an accurate and quick Covid-19 antigen diagnostics test kit to the Irish market which is set to become a fundamental pillar in Ireland’s testing strategy.
MyBio, which is based in the Kilkenny Research and Innovation Centre at St Kieran’s College, has created a rapid antigen test to see if you have Covid-19 and according to the company, its accuracy is 99%.
The company and its antigen test were name-checked by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly on Primetime last week as being an integral part of the government’s plans to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year MyBio teamed up with German lab MöLab GmbH to distribute the coronavirus indicating test in Ireland.
The Kilkenny Company says the test has an accuracy of 99%. The low-cost, rapid antigen test is analysed on-site without additional equipment or a laboratory setting, producing results in 15 minutes.
The test will enable easier detection of asymptomatic carriers of the virus and contact tracing of those who may have already been exposed. MyBio are already dispensing these tests to nursing homes, manufacturers, healthcare distributors, construction companies, hotels and health clubs across Ireland.
