Kilkenny Covid breakdown: Piltown area records almost four times as many cases as city

Kilkenny continues to enjoy one of the lowest rates of Covid-19 infection in the country, with a total of just 59 cases in recorded in the city and county over the past 14 days.

Piltown accounts for almost half (26) of these cases, despite it having the lowest population (21,343) of Kilkenny’s four Local Electoral Areas.

In contrast, just seven cases have been recorded in Kilkenny city (population 28,951) over the past fortnight.

There has been 12 infections in the Callan-Thomastown Electoral Area (population 25,357) during the same period.

Meanwhile, a further 14 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the Castlecomer area (population 23,581) over the past two weeks.

The data, which is available on the Covid-19 Data Hub, shows coronavirus cases numbers and incident rates per Local Electoral Area as of March 15.
