Kilkenny group that helped kids during lockdown shortlisted for prestigious award

A Kilkenny non-profit organisation is in the running for a share of a €100,000 fund forin recognition of their efforts to help young people impacted by Covid-19.

The Kilkenny-based Buddy Bench Ireland has made shortlist for the Coca-Cola Thank You Fund.

The group educates primary school students on positive mental well-being by providing lessons on kindness, resilience and emotional intelligence.

Buddy Bench Ireland is one of 23 organisations that have been shortlisted to receive grants of up to €10,000.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday, December 16.

Announcing the shortlist, Coca-Cola Ireland Country Manager Petre Sandru said: “The Coca-Cola Thank You Fund is an all-island initiative, with projects from all 32 counties submitted this year – which is a first for the Fund and a marker of the impact this pandemic is having on our young people.

“This year’s Fund will allow the recipient youth groups maintain their vital service to the community and realise their goals of building resilience, meeting the education gaps and tackling the mental health challenges of our young people over the coming weeks, months and even years,” Mr Sandru added.
