Kilkenny libraries launch autism-friendly experiences

A programme aimed at improving the library experience in Kilkenny for those with autism kicks off today.
The programme run by the Kilkenny Library Services includes a series of talks and workshops for parents and teachers, autism-friendly storytimes for children, as well as autism-friendly events such as Lego and yoga workshops.
In addition, the libraries are offering a series of music therapy workshops to four specialist Autism Spectrum Disorder units in primary schools across the county.
As part of this initiative, Kilkenny libraries will participate in staff training, service reviews, and evaluations with a view to obtaining Autism accreditation from AsIAm – Ireland’s Autism charity and advocacy organisation.
The special programme of events takes place in City Library, Loughboy Library, Ferrybank Library, Castlecomer Library, Urlingford Library and Graiguenamanagh Library until November 19.
