Kilkenny student ‘shocked’ after getting perfect Leaving Cert
BY COLIN BARTLEY
A KILKENNY student picked up a perfect Leaving Certificate, getting 8 H1s in her exams.
Ellen O’Carroll from Lisdowney sat her exams at Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny city.
It’s the second year in a row a student at the all-girls school in Loughboy had a student attain the perfect leaving certificate.
Under the new marking system brought in recently, a H1 is a mark of between 90%-100%.
Ellen is just one of five students in the country, and one of only two girls in the country, to receive eight H1’s.
Speaking to Eimear Ni Bhraonáin on KCLR this morning, Ellen said she was “shocked” at her perfect result.
“I’m a bit shocked, I’m still shocked I was not really expecting it at all,” Ellen said. “My mam started crying when I told her I got 8 H1s.”
“I hoped to get the points for my course, I wanted to do science in UCD next year, so that was what I hoped to get the points for.
“I made sure it was important I got some free time. I went to the gym during the year. Definitely getting away from the books for a while does clear the mind and I found it very good.”
