Kilkenny students urged to register early for Leaving Certificate portal in case it crashes

Leaving Certificate students in Kilkenny are being urged to register for their online projected grades as soon as possible in case there are any issues accessing the portal.

This morning the Department of Education opened the Calculated Grades Student Portal for this year’s 60,000 Leaving Certificate. The portal was created when it was decided sitting the exams was no longer viable due to social distancing issues, with teachers awarding the students their grades instead.

Students have until 10pm Thursday night to register online. The portal will ask numerous questions of the students including the which level they would like to be assessed at.

The government are urging students not to leave registration to the last second as they are expecting very high volumes of user traffic and want to avoid any technical issues.

Education Minister Joe McHugh in a statement released urged students to act immediately and said: “This is a brand-new system that it has been necessary to introduce because of the decisions we have had to take as we respond to Covid-19 situation.

“The important message for Leaving Certificate students is that they must now register by Thursday at 10pm to ensure that they can receive their Leaving Certificate calculated grades.

“It is also essential that students confirm their levels at this time so that schools can complete the task of providing information for each student about their expected level of performance in each subject.”

Students can register at gov.ie/leavingcertificate and a support helpline has been set up and will be open from midday today for anyone experiencing issues with the website.
