Kilkenny talisman TJ Reid to captain Cats this season
KILKENNY talisman TJ Reid is set to lead the Cats for the second time as Brian Cody’s side prepare to battle for All-Ireland glory in 2019.
In line with Kilkenny’s system in which the county’s senior club champions nominate the captain for the following season, reports today confirmed the Ballyhale Shamrocks star has been chosen to lead the inter-county side this season.
But before Kilkenny’s campaign gets underway, TJ’s focus will firmly be on his club commitments as Ballyhale prepare for their mouth-watering All-Ireland SHC semi-final clash with Waterford’s Ballygunner on Saturday, February 9 at Semple Stadium.
It will be the second time the 2015 Hurler of the Year has captained his county.
He led Kilkenny in 2010 when they won the Leinster championship, but lost out to Tipperary in the All-Ireland final.
The three-time All-Star has amassed a glittering array of honours since he broke into the Kilkenny squad in 2007, including seven All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster SHC titles, and five National Hurling League titles.
The popular hurling star has also proved to be a success in business. TJ Reid Health & Fitness has established itself as one the leading fitness centres in Kilkenny and the South East and was one of the businesses nominated in last year’s Kilkenny Business Awards.
