Kilkenny’s Butler House recognised as one of Ireland’s leading historic venues

KILKENNY’S Butler House has been included in the 45th Anniversary Edition of Ireland’s Blue Book, a prestigious collection of country house hotels, manor houses, castles and restaurants.

Butler House was one of six new additions to the famous book that were announced at a reception in Dublin’s Merrion Hotel earlier this week to celebrate 45 years since the collection was first published in 1974. The Kilkenny venue is now one of 56 properties listed in the Blue Book.

Butler House & Garden is the charming Dower House of Kilkenny Castle since 1786, nestled in the heart of medieval Kilkenny. It serves splendid local cuisine form the Garden View Restaurant, while Butler House’s beautiful rear garden is a much sought-after venue for intimate wedding occasions.

Kilkenny Civic Trust CEO Ciaran Conroy praised the efforts of the team at Butler House in getting the venue recognised as one of the country’s finest historic venues.

Mr Conroy added: “We are delighted that Butler House & Garden is joining the wonderful collection of country houses and splendid restaurants that constitute Ireland’s Blue Book.”

“It is lovely to be recognised as being of the standard required to join this exclusive group of properties. It reflects the work put in by an excellent team of people at Butler House to make this happen. We are really looking forward to welcoming all our future Ireland’s Blue Book guests to our historic property in the centre of Medieval Kilkenny for many years to come.”
