Kilkenny’s great outdoors: Drive to boost ebb and flow of visitors to city and county

Kilkenny’s wide range of outdoor attractions and activities have been joined together in an innovative new marketing drive to boost tourism numbers throughout the city and county.

‘Outdoor Kilkenny’ is a new initiative involving Kilkenny Tourism, the local authoiity and Trail Kilkenny.

It has created a stunning new website – http://www.outdoorkilkenny.ie – that promotes Kilkenny’s attractions and atctivities, including cycling, walking trails, culture, adventure and activity centres.

The initiative was set up in response to the changing holiday trends during the pandemic, which has resulted in an increased demand for outdoor and adventure holidays in which visitors can explore the county safely, while adhering to public health guidelines.

Chairperson of Kilkenny Tourism chairperson Brian Tyrrell said “We have listened to our members and realised the shift in tourism since the pandemic and the need for more outdoor focused activities for families and individuals to explore”.

‘Outdoor Kilkenny’ also has several suggested itineraries so visitors can be inspired for their ultimate outdoor day out.

“Kilkenny is fortunate that we have a huge variety of outdoor attractions to offer visitors by creating a website that provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ of outdoor attractions, which allows visitors to explore so many new and undiscovered activities that they can enjoy on their next visit to Kilkenny.” Mr Tyrrell added.
