Kilkenny’s hero cancer campaigner named ‘Celebrity Mother of the Year’

Kilkenny’s heroic cancer campaigner Vicky Phelan has been recognised for her advocacy work and work as a mother, after the public deemed her Irish Mother of the Year.

This morning, the RTÉ Guide announced the winner of the Celebrity Mother of the Year, an award voted on by the public – and the public chose Vicky.

“A bit of good news today!” the RTÉ Guide said, “We’re delighted to announce that @phelanvicky has won our Celebrity Mother of the Year poll.

“A true inspiration who despite personal adversity has continued to advocate for women’s health and is now encouraging us all to social-distance. Well done Vicky!”

Vicky herself took to social media to express her delight at being named Mother of the Year, especially as it is an award decided by the public.

“Thank you to EVERYONE who voted for me. This was a public vote so it makes the award very special because everything I do, I do for the public – to help people.

“It really means a lot to me to win this award and has given me such a boost. Thank you X.”
