Kilkenny newlyweds miss out on marriage ‘gift’ from Revenue

KILKENNY’S newlyweds could be missing out on a cash windfall for tying the knot.
Newly-married couples can claim Marriage Relief, which treats them as two single people, for the months following their wedding.
Out of the 85,000 couples married in Ireland since 2015, more than 4,000 have not claimed this relief, according to Taxback.com. The Kilkenny-based company says couples are missing out this wedding present from the Revenue, but it’s not too late to claim it.
Taxback.com Commercial Director Eileen Devereux said the tax savings for people in the aftermath of saying ‘I do’ are quite substantial.
“Thousands of couples throughout the country are gearing up for the big day and most will not be considering the tax implications,” she said.
