LATEST: 1,819 new cases of virus confirmed as Ireland passes six-million vaccine mark
A total of 1,819 new cases of Covid-19 are being reported today.
That’s an increase of 311 on yesterday’s figures.
According to the Covid data hub, there are 206 people in hospital who have tested positive for the virus, the same number as recorded yesterday.
There are 36 people in ICU, an increase of three on yesterday’s figures.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, said: “Vaccination, combined with basic public health measures, is the most effective way to protect the community against COVID-19.
“From tomorrow, registration for the COVID-19 vaccine programme opens for young people aged between 12 and 15 years of age.
“With over 6 million vaccine doses administered to date, each week we reach another important milestone in our journey out of this pandemic,” Dr Glynn concluded.
