LATEST: Kilkenny among 556 new cases of virus as 68 further deaths confirmed

A further 68 people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 556 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed.

The overall death toll as a result of the virus has now reached 3,752. There have now been 204,940 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 163 in Dublin, 45 in Limerick, 38 in Galway, 34 in Cork, 29 in Waterford and the remaining 247 cases are spread across 20 other counties, including six further infections in Kilkenny.

As of 8am today, 1,104 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 182 are in ICU. 54 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
