LATEST: Surge of cases in Kilkenny as 591 more infections recorded nationwide

A further three people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 591 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

The overall death toll as a result of the virus now stands at 1,933. There are now 64,046 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPTHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 120 are in Dublin, 75 in Donegal, 50 in Cork, 46 in Kerry, 44 in Limerick with the remaining 256 cases are spread across 20 other counties, including 12 further infections in Kilkenny.

The latst cases were confirmed as Kilkenny experiences its sharpest rise in Covid cases since the start of the pandemic.

Figures released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) reveal 187 people in the county were diagnosed with the virus in just two weeks to the end of October. This is almost a quarter of all cases recorded in the city and county since the beginning of the pandemic.
