LATEST: Three more deaths, Kilkenny among 254 new cases of virus, Minister warns Dublin may face more restrictions
A further three more people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 254 more cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall death toll from the virus to 1,788. There are now 31,799 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country.
Kilkenny is among the counties to record new infections, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The breakdown of the new cases are as follows: 136 in Dublin, 20 in Donegal, 13 in Louth, 12 in Wicklow, 9 in Waterford, 7 Carlow, 7 in Cork, 6 in Galway, 5 in Kerry, 5 in Wexford with the remaining 28 cases are located in Clare, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon and Westmeath.
The latest cases were confirmed as Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe warned there is “a very real and strong possibility” that Dublin could be hit with further restrictions before the week is out.
New public health measures for Dublin came into effect earlier today. The targeted restrictions are aimed at suppressing Covid-19 in the capital, where new cases of the virus have increased significantly in recent weeks.
Health experts will meet tomorrow and provide the Government with guidance which will then be considered before a recommendation is made in relation to further restrictions.
