Looking good: ‘Picture perfect’ Kilkenny village makes Top 12 list

Inistioge has been named among Ireland’s 12 most attractive small towns and villages.

The accolade comes from the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller magazine.

It names its top 12, in no particular order, as Inistioge, Dunmore East, Co. Waterford; Kinsale, Co. Cork; Roundstone, Co. Galway; Doolin, Co. Clare; Adare, Co. Limerick;  Baltimore, Co. Cork;  Dalkey, Co. Dublin; Dingle, Co. Kerry; Cashel, Co. Tipperary;  Westport, Co. Mayo and  Birr, Co. Offaly.

The magazine says of Inistioge: “With its 19th-century village square and 10-arch limestone bridge over the River Nore, it has provided the picture-perfect Irish setting for Hollywood films.”

It describes Dunmore East as “a picturesque fishing village … its amber-shaded sandstone coastline twists and turns past pristine beaches and secluded coves.” It says the town is home to “Ireland’s finest collection of thatched cottages”.
