Major new works planned for Kilkenny’s biggest dairy plant

Glanbia has applied for planning permission for major new works at its facility in Ballyragget, the largest multi-purpose integrated dairy plant in Europe.

Glanbia, one of the biggest employers in the county, has lodged plans with Kilkenny County Council that includes the installation of two new cooling tower units and associated concrete bases at the existing waste water treatment plant.

It is also seeking permission for upgrade works to the existing water main reservoir tank at the company’s milk processing facility to the existing pump house, which is said includes “the crossing of the N77 public road and all ancillary site works”.

And the company wants to build a new effluent line connection from its milk processing facility and the existing waste water treatment plant.

Glanbia also confirmed it has prepared a ‘Natura Impact Statement’ as part of its application.

The council is expected to rule on the application before the end of next month.
