Man (20s) arrested over hit and run on Kilkenny border that left two women hospitalised
A man has been arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a hit and run on the Kilkenny border which left two women in a serious condition in hospital.
The two women, one in their late 60s and one in her 70s, were rushed to University Hospital Waterford after they were stuck by a van at Tinvane outside Carrick-on-Suir.
The pair were walking near the N24 shortly after 9pm when they were hit.
The van that hit the women, a white Opel Combo, is understood to have come around a bend and crashed into them.
The van then careered across the road before hitting a tree and coming to a stop.
The driver of the van got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
Gardai from Carrick-on-Suir arrested a man in his 20s in relation to the incident late last night. He is currently being held for questioning.
The two women remain in hospital.
