Man with string of convictions arrested after trying to rob charity shop in Kilkenny
A MAN was arrested after he tried to rob a charity shop in Kilkenny city.
The 34-year-old, who is from Kilkenny, entered the shop on upper John Street last Tuesday at around 5.20pm.
Seeing the store was empty at the time, he went behind the counter and attempted to open the till.
But he was disturbed before he could take the cash and fled the shop empty-handed.
Kilkenny gardai arrived on the scene a short time later. They got a good description of the suspect and arrested him the following day.
He was taken to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning and later appeared before Kilkenny District Court where he was charged with burglary offences. He was later released after paying a bond.
A Garda source told KilkennyNow.ie the 34-year-old has a string of previous criminal offences.
