National Heritage Week to bring Kilkenny’s past into focus
ARCHEOLOGY, photography, construction, farming, ancestry and artistry are the basis of just some of the events taking place locally for National Heritage Week.
Starting this Saturday, the theme of this year’s Heritage Week in county Kilkenny is Pastimes & Past Times.
The week-long programme, with mostly free events, includes something for everyone from building a round tower, sketching, an archaeology dig, photography, old-fashion threshing, gardening, ancestry, hiking, and circus performing.
Heritage Week is part of a Europe-wide initiative to raise awareness and appreciation of the heritage that surrounds us.
Speaking at the launch of Kilkenny’s Heritage Week Programme, Dearbhala Ledwidge, Heritage Officer, Kilkenny County Council said: “Heritage Week helps raise awareness about our heritage and gives everyone an opportunity to get involved, to learn more and have fun.”
