New apartment block to be built on partially protected site in centre of Kilkenny town

A new apartment block will be built in the centre of Callan.

It comes after Kilkenny County Council approved plans by developers James Ryan and Shane Lynch to convert a cottage on Mill Street and built 12 new apartments on the site.

Parts of the site are listed on National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and on the Record of Protected Structures for Kilkenny.

The planning approval was granted sbuject to a number of conditions, including the removal of a request to demolish a building within the site and the request to carry out work on another structure within the Architectural Conservation Area (ACA).

Two of the 12 new apartments will be built on the site of the existing cottage. The remaining appartments will be housed in a new two-storey block.
