No mast: Eircom’s plans for 60ft tower in centre of Kilkenny village shot down
Plans to build a telecommunications mast in the centre of a Kilkenny village have been rejected after the local authority felt the mast was unsuitable for the location.
Eircom Limited had applied to Kilkenny County Council to erect a 18-metre-high free standing communications mast in the centre of Mooncoin.
The telecoms compnay applied for permission to erect the 60ft mast with associated antennae, communication dishes, ground equipment and all associated site development works at the Eircom Exchange on Chapel Street.
In its ruling rejecting the mast, the local authority said: “(it) has serious concerns given the location of the site within a residential area where a high number of dwellings are located in close proximity to the site.
“The proposed development could seriously injure the visual and residential amenities of the area and depreciate the value of existing properties.”
