Plans to transform house on historic Kilkenny street into 16 new apartments
Plans to demolish a house in the heart of Kilkenny’s historic centre to make way for 16 new apartments have been lodged with the local authority.
The developer, Martin Murphy, has applied for planning permission for the new apartments in Friary Street, which is located within the St. Mary’s Architectural Conservation Area.
Under the plans, number 19 Friary Street would be demolished, although the front façade would be reconstructed, and 16 new two-bedroom dwellings would be built.
The developer is also seeking permission to build “associated stair cores, communal refuse and storage areas, bicycle parking provision, internal hard and soft landscaped courtyard plus all associated site works”.
Kilkenny County Council is expected to announce its decision on the development by the middle of next month.
