BY COLIN BARTLEY
HOMEOWNERS in Kilkenny could be paying substantially more tax on their houses next year.
Kilkenny County Council are to consider upping the Local Property Tax (LPT) by 15% next year
Councillors are to set sit down before the end of September and see if they want to implement the increase that would see the council take in another €1.1 million per annum.
The LPT currently nets the council €7.5 million per year.
Currently, LPTs are €90 a year for houses worth up to €100,000; €225 a year for houses worth between €100,000 and €150,000, and €315 a year for houses worth between €150,000 & €200,000.
The public can have their say on the proposal and the potential effects of varying the basic rate of the Local Property Tax on businesses, individuals and on local authority services by written submissions to the council by August 20th.
