Poetry in motion: Now Kilkenny’s poets will answer your call

Members of the public now have the opportunity to listed to some of the finest examples of local poetry.

A new ‘dial-a-poem’ selection of aural works from Kilkenny poets is now available to the public through an innovative project that was devised during the pandemic.

Kilkenny County Council Arts Office’s Poetry Phone has just announced a selection of poems, which have all been written by local poets, is now available for people to hear over a dedicated new phone line.

Each of the 11 poems have already been published in the hugely successful annual Kilkenny Poetry Broadsheet. The contributors include Jane Meally, Alice Bennett, Frank Marshall, Willie-Joe Meally, Myra McAuliffe, Susie Lamb, Carmel Cummins, Monica Fleming, Nora Brennan, Angela Keogh and Gerry Moran.

All the poems are recited by Kilkenny actors Susie Lamb, Ger Cody and Nuala Roche.

To hear the poems, people can simply call 1800 272 994, follow the instructions at the other end of the line and select the poem they wish to hear.
