Protesters at Kilkenny greyhound track will call for total ban on the sport

BY COLIN BARTLEY

A GROUP of animal rights campaigners is to stage a protest in Kilkenny calling for an end to greyhound racing and what they see as animal exploitation.

The protest will happen at Kilkenny greyhound stadium before tomorrow’s meet that starts at 8 pm.

The protest at the Kilkenny track is the latest in a growing number of protests prompted by the recent RTE Investigates programme which revealed 6,000 greyhounds are killed every year because they’re not up to standard.

The protestors, part of Ban Bloodsports Ireland, are hoping to influence sponsors and the government to stop funding the sport.
