Rural regeneration: Eight Kilkenny projects get €270,000 funding boost

Eight Kilkenny projects have been awarded a combined €269,232 in the latest round of CLÁR funding.

The latest funding under the scheme – a targeted investment programme for small infrastructural projects in rural areas that experience disadvantage – is part of an overall €472m investment announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Coolagh Community Group will receive €45,000 for upgrade works outside the Community Hall, €24,750 has been allocated to improve public lighting in Muckalee, while a further €30,015 will be provided for Galmoy Community Hall.


The community in Windgap will receive three separate tranches of funding; €20,788 to tarmac the surface at Lake Park, €29,419 to develop the local handball alley, and a further €38,307 for works to the driveway and carpark at the GAA club.

Meanwhile, €36,641 has been allocated to upgrade the community hall in Ballyouskill, while the Naomh Aodhán community centre in Kilmanagh will receive.

Welcoming the announcement, Inistioge-based councillor and Fine Gael general election candidate Michael Doyle (pictured below) said: “This will help with to encourage more people to choose to live and stay in rural Ireland and allow the regeneration of rural towns and villages by supporting opportunities for remote working and improving local infrastructure, as well as village renewal schemes and outdoor recreation schemes, making living in rural communities sustainable and attractive.”
