Saucy samba sees Kilkenny’s John Nolan and celebrity partner Mairéad into next stage of DWTS

KILKENNY dancing star John Nolan and his celebrity partner Mairéad Ronan have made it into the last six of the popular RTÉ show.

The pair were the first contestants out of the traps on last night’s programme, performing a samba to Barry Manilow’s Copacabana.

Their matching yellow costumes were more Copa-banana, with judge Jennifer Zamparelli commenting: “You’re like something they put in my drink on holiday.”

Mairéad joked: “I look like a sweet. It was such a fun dance. Can I dedicate it to my good friend Ian Dempsey and his dog!”

Performance-wise, John and Mairéad did enough to make it into the final six of Dancing With The Stars, scoring a total of 21 points.

Judge Darren Bennett said: “Mairéad – the showgirl you really got this party started… cheeky flirty fun”, adding: “I would have liked a little more aggression in those hips.”

Former Irish rugby international Peter Stringer and his partner Ksenia Zsikhotska were the latest to the voted off the show. Fair City actress Clelia Murphy and her partner Vitali Kozmin were saved in the dance-off.
